Vegan friendly eateries in Nelson, New Zealand

We spend every summer in the beautiful Tasman region and absolutely love it! If you’re heading down to this part of the country in 2022, save this post for some #vegan friendly recommendations!

Bobby Franks Cafe, Nelson

Local gem, situation in the Wood @bobbyfrankscafe is a small café with a great vibe. There are a handful of vegan options, including this Herbivore breakfast. They also have a range of delicious drinks, such as chai and hot cacao available.

Nahm, Nelson

@nahmnelson is a Thai restaurant located above a boat shed, looking out to Nelson’s beautiful bay. The view is good, but the food is even better. With many vegan labelled thai classics on the menu, it’s hard to choose what to order! I recommend the black pepper tofu stir fry pictured!

East Street Café (takeaway), Nelson

@eastst_nelson Café is a 100% Vegan eatery in the town centre. They’re currently open for takeaways and have a range of offerings from buddha bowls to burgers, smoothies and desserts!

Toad Hall shop and café, Motueka

@toadhallmotueka is a must stop on the way to the Able Tasman. You can grab a scoop of vegan ice cream at the store, as well as organic produce and they offer a small range of vegan grocery items. Toad Hall also has an in-house juicery and café with fresh, delicious food! Vegan options are available, burgers, falafel salad and cabinet raw slices.

The Vegetarian Butcher, Nelson farmers market

100% Vegan butchery stocking meat alternatives like spicy Italian sausages, jackfruit, tempeh, and patties. You can often find the Vegetarian butcher’s stand at the Saturday market, but they also have a small store! Checkout their Facebook for updates (thevegetarianbutcher.co.nz)

Vegan friendly supermarkets/whole-food refilleries

If you’re staying in the area and stocking up on groceries, make sure to head to @conningsfoodmarket for locally grown produce, and @goodforstore for vegan staples and snacks at Old Factory Corner 🛒 Stoke also has @everydaygoodnessnz a locally owned refillery and @raewardfreshrichmond has quite a few vegan goodies I hadn’t seen before!
