Fully vegetarian restaurant specialising in delicious vegan burgers and tasty starters. Previously run as the eatery Basque, Mockingbird has had been updated into a light and bright space with a chill outdoor area for drinks on the roof top. I’m a big fan of the of the jackfruit burger, which even my Omni friends are converted to. Or treat yourself & try the Gado Gado Burger, even if it’s your first time trying tempeh, take the risk!

10 years ago this was the only spot for wellington vegans and although there are now lots of eateries to choose from, it is still considered the vegan hub. Amazing, tasty food with none of the frills. The menu is fully vegan friendly & the staff are quick to create these authentic Malaysian & Chinese meals. Try the Laksa (pictured) with extra chilli for a spice hit!

The Lab Food & Beverage Co.
With three locations in Wellington and colourful fresh cabinet food, this is a great mid week catch up spot. There is something for everyone, including Half Baked slices (Wellington based company) and whole food smoothies as well as a menu with multiple Vegan options. My go to order is the Maca Coco smoothie and Vegan Bowl (pictured). Fresh food and fast paced service.

The boys at Plant Blazed have created something I’ve never had anywhere else in the world, let alone Wellington. The Burgers & Hot dawgs are all vegan, all flavoursome, all bloody good . Perfect for anyone who’s missing the taste of meat but wanting to stay cruelty free. Some say their Seitan chicken tastes just like the real thing but i’m just here for the Jalapeno hot dogs. Seize is a raw treat hot spot. I’d happily visit every day of the week just for the raw snickers slice. They promote being eco friendly by selling beautiful Joco reusable cups in store. Seize also does a great selection of salads for work lunches and lots of vegan friendly options for dine in or takeaway. They’re open for brunch on Saturdays so head down and taste a fun beetroot latte!

THE VEGAN VAULT
Hosted on the first Saturday of every month at Aro Valley Community centre, Vegan Vault is a must visit. Upon entry you can give Koha and receive a fork to enjoy your meal (I love this initiative, all to reduce waste). With various plant based food trucks changing monthly and charity stalls such as Black sheep animal sanctuary seen here, it’s the perfect spot to sample Wellingtons cruelty free goodness all in one place! Pictured: Ethiopian cuisine from Chala Creations, available every month!
